The best way to help your health during the holiday season may be to stop worrying about it and just enjoy it.
You know the old riddle, “Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?” Health and happiness seem to be equally linked. A 2017 study in the journal Applied Research Quality Life found that people who thought they were healthy were more likely to feel happy. Likewise there is research showing that being happy makes our bodies healthy, to include decreasing the inflammation that is often associated with chronic disease.
It is faster to change our minds, to shift our perceptions, than it is to change the physiology of our bodies. Therefore it makes sense to focus first on the mind shift. It starts with a conscious choice to experience life differently. Our minds are like gardens. If you water and fertilize the “weeds”, they grow. If you prefer to grow flowers, that is where you put your focus.
So this holiday season become aware of what is your personal “Reason for the Season”. Every person has different emotions and expectations tied to the holidays. Understanding what we need from the season is crucial to achieving what we need and want. Then be intentional. Be “In Joy” and enjoy.
Wishing you all a healthy happy holiday season!
