As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Hypnotherapist with over 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Longstreet helps people, organizations, and health professionals create sustainable strategies that lead to health.
It is rare to find a speaker who is a PhD- level nutritionist that is also a hypnotherapist. As a speaker, Dr. Longstreet translates real science into real life, and gives real techniques to make it work. Her practical applications have been field-tested through 28+ years of community-based work in USA and Australia. By guiding self-hypnosis from the stage to break barriers to behavior change, participants may receive a truly transformational experience. Dr. Longstreet brings a message of hope, that living life well is doable when we align our subconscious with conscious mind to make healthy living simple and easy.
Your first impression of Dr. Longstreet is of energy and enthusiasm. What is not apparent is how many personal challenges she faced to be where she is today. How a not-so-remarkable child born with a less than perfect body, stumbled literally and figuratively along life’s path, conquering cigarette addiction and weight gain. One thing Dr. Longstreet learned from childhood is that you will fall down. You will make mistakes. Pick yourself up and keep going. You are not a failure until you quit trying.
Through almost three decades of community nutrition service, Dr. Longstreet battled the obesity and diabetes epidemics. Over and over again patients would drop their blood sugars down from 250+ mg/dl (14 mmol/L) to more normal levels in less than a week… but then two to six months later they would be back to their high blood sugar habits. Other patients would drop 50+ pounds (23kg) only to see them regain it. For all the public health and medical community’s efforts, with program after program, effective reversal of the fattening of America has yet to be sustained for the majority of us. On a painful personal level, Dr. Longstreet has lost parents and a sibling to avoidable chronic disease. We will not fail unless we quit trying.
Success became easier when Dr. Longstreet looked beyond the mainstream. Much of the process she used to break her own cigarette addiction came from adding self-hypnosis to traditional behavior therapy. In addition to clarifying media-driven confusion about nutrition, self-hypnosis helps unravel the ties to previous unhealthy habits. For all the people who have struggled, here is hope. The strategies of improved food choices and active living can taste good, feel good, add vitality and quality to your life, and with hypnosis reprogramming subconscious habit, be simple and doable. The vision is that by simple choices, we live life well.
Dr. Longstreet also provides continuing education programs for health professionals on the evidence base of hypnosis for use in clinical medical care.
